May 20, 2021 - The National Irrigation Administration Region IV-A conducts its Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program Orientation and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing with partner Agencies in Quezon Province at Apple and Peach Restaurant, Lucena City Quezon.
Said event was led by Cabinet Secretary and NIA Board Chairperson Karlos Alexei Nograles and NIA Administrator Gen Ricardo Visaya who were able to join the activity thru virtual conference.
Partner agencies include the Office of Provincial Governor of Quezon Province, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Education, Landbank, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Agrarian Reform.
In his speech, NIA IV-A Regional Manager Romeo Lopez thanked all the partner agencies who were able to commit and work hand in hand with NIA to address hunger and poverty not only in the province of Quezon but to CALABARZON as a whole.
“Ang paglagda natin sa Memorandum of Understanding dito sa probinsya ng Quezon ay isang mahalagang pasimula upang maipagpatuloy natin ang suporta sa ating mga magsasaka. Ang aktibidad na kagaya nito ay isang mekanismo ng ating pamahalaan upang tutukan at labanan ang problema sa kagutuman at kahirapan”, he added.
NIA Administrator Visaya highlighted the importance of government support to our farmers especially to our Irrigators Associations. He said that this partnership can be a mechanism to promote a more sustainable and more self-reliant IAs by patronizing their agricultural produce to be used for various government food program initiatives.
“Our Irrigators Associations are ready to be partners as food producers and suppliers of rice, vegetables, and root crops, among others. They are also ready to be service providers which would greatly help them to become more self-reliant”, he added.
On the other hand, Cabsec Nograles shared his aspirations with the program as it can be a key player in addressing various challenges in social and economic growth. He said that it needs a concerted actions and holistic approach to mitigate hunger, ensure food security and health, and reduce poverty in the rural communities.
EPAHP is a collaborative efforts of various government agencies to create a greater synergy and convergency in engaging the rural communities to enhance social capital and optimize economic resource base thru supplementary feeding and other government feeding programs, food production programs and essential support services, including the participation of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in government procurement as partners and/or service providers.
Highlight of the program is the signing of Memorandum of Understanding to officially forge various agencies commitment towards addressing hunger and poverty in the province of Quezon. The EPAHP program orientation is scheduled to be presented to all provinces in CALABARZON to gather more support and appreciation of different public and private organizations
