Said activity is part of the Agency's preparation in the creation of its own Material Testing Laboratory which aims to facilitate quality implementation of various irrigation projects.

NIA IV-A Principal Engineer Romulo Angeles highlights the importance of quality materials in constructing irrigation structures and facilities. He mentioned that the Project-In-Charge (PIC) must have necessary knowledge on proper handling, storage, and utilization of construction materials.

“Very Timely itong training natin kasi on-going na yung construction ng ating material testing laboratory na kung saan magiging part ito ng ating investment para mas mapalakas natin ang ating project implementation”, he added.

Regional Manager Wilson Lopez reiterates that this training will enhance the NIA technical personnel, specifically the Project-In-Charge, in dealing with technical knowledge on construction materials and testing operations.

“Maganda na kita natin na dumadaan talaga sa quality control yung mga construction materials na ginagamit natin. Malaki ang pakinabang nito para maiwasan natin ang mabilis na pagkasira ng mga irrigation facilities at structures dulot ng iba’t-ibang factors tulad ng bagyo at lindol”, he said.

RM Lopez also shares that the upcoming Material Testing Laboratory in the region has also a potential for an income generation of the Agency.

The Agency believes that this activity will promote efficient solutions to the actual problems being encountered during the construction of irrigation canals and other appurtenant structures which in turn ensure durable and operational irrigation systems in the region.
