NIA-Quezon IMO and PhilRice Lead Climate Risk Mapping Workshop in Lucena City

National Irrigation Administration- Quezon IMO, in collaboration with Philrice, conducted the Participatory Climate Risk Mapping (CS Map) Workshop 1 in the Province of Quezon held in Brgy. Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City, Quezon, July 4-5.

Workshop activities and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were conducted to gather primary data about climate impacts and vulnerabilities experienced by the rice-growing communities in the different municipalities and cities of Quezon.

The data gathered will be beneficial in creating climate risk maps, crop suitability, and provincial mitigation and adaptation plans. A participatory and interactive workshop, the participants used markers to put or validate information in the different maps identifying flood prone areas, vulnerable rice areas, among others. Said FGD was conducted to facilitate in-depth discussion about the municipalities/cities’ historical hazards, available resources, and mechanization.

The participants were DA-PhilRice Los Baños (CS Map Project), DA-PhilRice CES (CS Map Project), Local Government Units of Quezon, OPA-Quezon, NIA-Quezon, PhilMech, DA-RFO IV-A, and Farmers.
