1st Batch of Training Course on Rice Production

The first batch of Rice Production Training Course in partnership with Philrice happened on May 27 at the NIA Regional Training Center, Pila, Laguna. Participants in said training were Operations and Institutional Development Staff from IDD Central Office, Irrigation Engineering Center, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions IV-A, V, VI, VII and VIII.

In relation to NIA’s Rice Contract Farming Program which aims to increase quality rice production and farmers income, the training is set to equip the participants with a clear understanding of the rice production system which focuses on irrigated lowland rice using the Palay Check system to assist the farmers and IAs in the management of rice crops.

Regional Manager Roberto Dela Cruz welcomed the guest and participants and expressed “Mapalad kayo mga trainees na naandito ngayon dahil magiging bahagi kayo ng kauna-unahang Rice Contract Farming na inilunsad ng NIA.

Another message of support came from Philrice Regional Director, Ms. Rhemilyn Relado-Sevilla leaving the participants with “The NIA-Philrice convergence not only aims to provide better service to the Filipino farmers but to gain an increased yield, reduced cost and higher income, ang tagumpay ng NIA Rice Contract Farming ay pagkakaroon ng abot kaya at sapat na bigas sa Pilipinas.”

The training course will run from May 27-31, with Philrice technical experts as resource persons.
